DESCRIPTION: Ford Field Management, LLC is Detroit’s premier sports and entertainment destination and is the game day home of the Detroit Lions. Throughout the year, Ford Field hosts events such as concerts, motorsports, college and high school sports, high school and college graduations, and more. Ford Field also has space available for conferences, meetings, and banquets. Ford Field has hosted major events such as Super Bowl XL and the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four. Ford Field Management and the Detroit Lions currently need a Creative Director. This position is based out of the Ford Field stadium located in Downtown Detroit. This position will report to the Vice President of Marketing.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Creative Director position is responsible for leading the ideation and design of all Detroit Lions and Ford Field branded campaigns, as well as the design and fulfillment of all graphic design projects for the Club. The position is also responsible for upholding the Club’s visual image and brand standards internally and externally through close with vendors, corporate partners, community partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to): The Creative Director position will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:

  • Serve as the gatekeeper of the Lions and Ford Field visual brands while collaborating with senior management, the NFL, NFL Players Association, vendors and apparel brands to ensure proper use in any material or environment where Club-owned marks appear
  • Will lead the creative process, interpret objectives and ideas, and oversee the design and production of all graphics artwork and creative projects
  • Will use industry-leading design skills to continually elevate and modernize the Detroit Lions visual brand across diverse platforms, while ensuring compliance with the organization’s core principals and image
  • Will seek ways to streamline and improve the process by which the organization receives creative services support and create efficiencies for all parties
  • Will coordinate graphic artwork preparation with printers, signage and promotional items vendors, corporate partners and other third-party partners of the Club to ensure technical job quality adheres to brand standards and meets mutually agreed upon deadlines
  • Will maintain an organized database of resources where Lions staff may conveniently access relevant Club, stadium and NFL creative assets for various uses and independent sharing with third parties as required NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Will establish, maintain and apply the brand identity systems for the Detroit Lions, Detroit Lions signature events, Ford Field both internally and externally
  • Utilize a MAC with various desktop publishing programs to create and produced finished artwork
  • Prepare photogenic images to create digital files for use in print or to be published digitally
  • Coordinate and arrange the production and fulfillment of projects within the budget guidelines provided by the project requestor
  • Will stay ahead of the curve on emerging design trends and technologies and seek opportunities for ongoing education to benefit both the employee
  • Will establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments
  • Will adjust work schedule to meet the demands of multiple departments and multiple projects


  •  Bachelor degree and 10 plus years of graphic design experience
  •  Experience designing for a professional sports team or league
  • Strong portfolio of work with an advanced grasp of visual design principles, layout, typography, color and imagery
  • Expertise in Adobe software, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign in a MAC environment
  • A valid Driver’s License and a good driving record
  • Ability to design across diverse platforms: signage installation, print, digital, collateral
  • The desire to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Bold, creative, courageous, curious and intelligent understanding of the sports industry and sports design landscape
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent follow through, organizational and prioritization skills
  • Team-oriented mindset and attitude in approaching all duties and responsibilities
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to effectively multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with, and relate to, all levels of staff, management, clients, and vendors
  • Strong attention to detail and high standard of quality for all work
  • Demonstrated work ethic with an innate sense of urgency and tenacity
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays
